Josiah Evans came to Milpitas in 1853 after founding the
Butte County city of Evansville. Evans came by covered wagon across the plains. He
bought 800 acres of Rancho Tularcitos land. The present day road follows the same
route as the historic road that served the ranches of the 1860s.
This view is looking southeast. The right side of picture is about the spot where
the kidnappers of Brooke Hart moved him to a second car during the famous 1930s era
crime. More details about the Hart Kidnapping can be found on the Last
Word Ranch web page.
